Girls Basketball & Boys Soccer Update
Hello Hornet Families, We are trying to gauge interest in 7th and 8th grade Girls Basketball and Boys Soccer. We are planning on playing but in order to plan we need to know how many student athletes will be allowed to try out and play for the Kealing sports teams. We know there are many questions at this time, and we will be following the district guidelines for safety procedures. This information can be found at https://www.austinisd.org/athletics. This website is also a great place to find all the required forms for your student. If you are planning on having your student tryout and play for the school teams, please fill out our form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc_waqhyejpTdSlA1W2SPV1Wzf5msunDs60dTSJXJia91RqjA/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0 |
Fall Athletics Update
Kealing Athletics Update: Hornets, we will not be having workouts for strength and conditioning during the month of September. We will be having Clubs for Football and Volleyball that will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays. In these Clubs we will share workouts and drills for players to complete at home. You will receive information about Clubs through Advisory. We do not know if we will play football or volleyball this fall at this point. We will let everyone know as soon as we have answers. Kealing Track Schedule and Info
Kealing Track FAQ’s When is Track Season? We will begin practice on Monday March 23rd. Our final Track meet is Wednesday April 22nd and Thursday April 23rd . We have one OPTIONAL track meet on Saturday April 18th. We have a total of 5 track meets. When do we practice? We practice Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after school from 3-4:45 on weeks that we have meets on Thursday. The practice schedule may be adjusted the weeks our meets are on days other than Thursdays. What equipment do I need? *Completed AISD Athletic Physical Packet* Athletic Clothes (T-shirt, shorts, running shoes) Optional Equipment Your own water bottle Track spikes (discuss with coach depending on events) Do my grades matter for track? Yes. All track athletes are under UIL No pass No play rules. The 4th 6 weeks report card will be used as the basis for eligibility. If you have any questions, see one of the track coaches. Is track just running? No. Track meets consist of running, jumping, and throwing events. Each athlete is allowed to participate in 5 total events. What events are there in track? Do I get to pick the events I participate in? You will have an opportunity to participate in the events you want. We only get 3 or 4 spots per event per team (7th girls, 7th boys, 8th girls, 8th boys), so we take the 3 or 4 athletes per team that have the best performance in those events (times in the running events, distances in the jumps and throws) You may be asked to participate in an event that isn’t your top choice based on team need. Can I help the team if I am not the fastest person in my race or 1st place in my field event? Yes. The team gets points for individuals placing from 1st to 6th place. Each grade level boys and girls really need multiple people to participate in each event to accumulate enough points to win the meet. Scoring is as follows Relay Individual 1st Place 20 10 2nd Place 16 8 3rd 12 6 4th 8 4 5th 4 2 6th 2 1 To make track as enjoyable for athletes and coaches, we need you to come to practice on time ready to work hard and improve. We also need you to be in the habit of communicating with your coaches if you have a conflict and will miss a practice or meet. Email is the preferred method of communication. |
