Hornet Herald: October 6, 2019

posted Oct 6, 2019, 4:23 PM by KMS Hornets

Hey Hornets,

Last week was thrilling. From pep rallies to dress up days, we enjoyed seeing the Kealing spirit from both students and staff.

Homecoming football games were a success with the 7th and 8th grade teams winning handily over Lively Middle School. The special treat for all supporters was seeing the Kealing Pep Band in the stands. Our band has been sidelined due to rainy days the last few years but the weather was kind to us this year.  Check them out below if you didn't get to see the live action.

Our volleyball teams stood proud at Kealing and Lively. There were some tough three set matches and a combo of wins and losses. The teamwork and fighting spirit that defines Kealing Athletics was on display. We’re always proud of our students but Homecoming Week has a special feel. Thanks to all who came out to support!

Our staff will be participating in professional development on Friday, October 11 and Monday, October 14. All Austin ISD students are out on October 14. Kealing has a special professional development day on October 11. If you have students on other Austin ISD campuses, click here to check for their additional professional development days.

Wishing you all a great week!

School Safety- Please discuss the following reminders with your students. Do not open doors to let anyone in the building. Everyone who does not have a badge or key is required to enter through the front door. Students at the end of the school day should report directly to their after school activities (office hours, clubs, etc). Once students exit the building they will not be allowed to reenter.
Tardy Sweeps- Kealing Administration will conduct unannounced tardy sweeps throughout the school year to ensure students maintain punctuality. Every minute of learning counts so remind your student to hustle (walking of course). Students outside of class after the bell rings will be administered detention during lunch or after school.
This week in Advisory students will learn about the Texas Teen Book Festival and participate in a Hispanic Heritage month lesson with a close Kealing connection. The guidance counselors will ask students to take the Student Needs Survey during advisory the week of October 15th-18th. This survey provides critical data that helps drive counseling programming at Kealing. Individual data is shared only with counselors. Click here to preview the survey. Please contact your student’s advisory teacher if you would prefer that your student not take the survey.

Substance Abuse Prevention Presentation for 8th Graders
Phoenix House is partnering with Kealing Middle School to provide a substance abuse prevention program for 8th grade students. Please contact your student’s advisory teacher if you prefer that your student not participate.
