Hi Hornets,
As many of you are aware, students around the globe participated in protests Friday aiming to get world leaders to take action on climate change. As one of the closest secondary campuses to the Texas State Capitol, our students are a stone’s throw from a critical place in our democracy. During events like this one, our primary goals are to keep students safe, on campus, and engaged in learning. Be sure that your students know your expectations in case of protest, walkout, or rally at the Capitol. While we have systems in place to notify parents and may follow students when staff is available, these are not school sanctioned or sponsored events.
I know that democracy is not a spectator sport and applaud students for wanting to actively participate. Talk with your students about other ways they can support change in the areas that matter to them. It takes time and commitment. They’re not too young to help!
Chevron Fuel Your School Program Is Coming to Austin ISD!
This October, Chevron’s Fuel Your School program will donate $1 for every fuel purchase of at least 8 gallons at participating Chevron and Texaco stations in Austin. Up to $375,000 will be donated directly to the Donors Choose crowdfunding platform to fund AISD teacher projects. Over the next few weeks I’ll let you know which Kealing projects are popping up on Donors Choose.
How can you help? Choose carefully when you fuel up! Austin area parents, families, and community members may purchase at least 8 gallons of fuel at Chevron and Texaco-branded stations in Austin from October 1-31. Chevron will donate $1 of each purchase to Donors Choose, which will then help fund teacher projects. In addition, everyone is invited to donate directly to projects on Donors Choose during this period.
KMAG No Hassle Fundraiser – Home Stretch!
The KMAG No Hassle Fundraiser is winding down and we need your help in meeting this year’s goals! So far the fundraiser has brought in over $51,000 that will support classroom materials, professional learning for teachers, and extra-curricular activities. Every dollar counts so give if you can. Also, remember to see if your company will pitch in since a number of Austin companies offer matching funds when families give to schools. This is another way for you to help us meet our goals.
That’s all for this week!
