Kealing Broadcast Television is a student developed news program that airs every Tuesday through Advisory.  This year's news team is learning the tricks of the trade and will be broadcasting in about four weeks. We'll post the news in the Student Life section and in Hornet Herald every week once it's up and running.

Advisory Minute to Win it Supplies Request
During Advisory "active days" classes are given the opportunity to participate in "Minute to Win it Games." Classes are provided with a box of supplies to facilitate a number of fun and silly games in the classroom. To make more of these games we are in need of some supplies. Here is a signup list that would allow us to create a number of additional games for classes to use. If you have some of these around the house or can pick some up it would be much appreciated. None of these items need to be fancy or expensive, or even new in some cases. Again any of these supplies would be amazing to help increase the Social Emotional Learning experiences in Advisory here at Kealing. Please drop off supplies at the front office labeled for Ms. Thigpen Room 222

Paint and Paint brushes for Advisory Projects
We have had many requests for paint from teachers who are completing different activities in advisory; we often make banners and door decorations. We would like to know if anyone is willing to purchase or donate paint brushes or paint.

The request is, but does not have to be exactly these brands:
  1. Sax Non-Toxic Giant Tempera Paint Cakes with Tray - 2 1/4 x 3/4 inch - Set of 9 - Assorted Colors by Sax- approximately 10 sets
  2. Creativity Street Pre-School Brush Set, 24 Pack (AC5172) by Chenille Kraft- approximately 3 sets
  3. Creativity Street Round Brushes, Assorted Colors, 30 Pack (AC5168) by Chenille Kraft- approximately 3 sets
(These are copied from Amazon)

The McCallum Vertical Team is pleased to present the documentary Screenagers.

In the award winning documentary SCREENAGERS, physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance.

The film will be shown at the McCallum Theater on Monday, October 23rd at 5:30 and again at 7pm. It is open to all parents of students who attend McCallum, Kealing, Lamar and all feeder elementary schools. Parents are encouraged to bring their students aged 10 and up. Because the MAC Theater has limited seating, we're asking that secondary school students and parents attend the 7pm showing and that elementary school parents and older elementary students attend the earlier showing. Of course if this isn't possible for your family, either showing is open.

Below is a link to the Screenager's Website which has a movie trailer as well as useful tools to help you and your student navigate digital life.

Bike Club
Bike club fall season is now in session!  If students are still interested in joining bike club (but missed the orientation on 9/28), please have them go see Mr. Hendrex (215) or Mr. Shoaf (516).  We still have a few spots open, but all participating students must have a signed parent waiver.

Clinics are scheduled for October 21st (8:30-11:30), November 4th (9-12) and November 11th (9-12), all at the Kealing fields. It is not required that players attend all three, but the more they can attend the more improvement will be seen in their skills. No experience is necessary to attend and all equipment will be provided. Please wear athletic clothing appropriate for the weather, tennis shoes or cleats, and bring a full water bottle. Ultimate Frisbee Fall Practices
Coach Crouch, Kepner, and Natenberg are excited to extend the Ultimate Frisbee season into the fall this year in order to provide more time for players to improve their skills and play.  Here are the details:

WHAT: Ultimate Frisbee is a team field sport played with a flying disc. It combines elements of football, basketball and soccer, and requires agility, teamwork, and endurance. Off-season practices this fall will include skills, drills, and scrimmaging. These practices aren’t part of the ‘official’ spring season, but they will preview and lead into that team for the second semester.
WHO: All grade levels, all programs, all genders. No prior playing experience is needed, but good behavior and sportsmanship are expected at all times.
HOW: Be one of the first 40 players to SIGN UP each week and make sure that you’ve submitted your COMPLETED RELEASE FORM. The sign-up sheet will be posted every Monday morning outside of Coach Natenberg’s room (235), and any of the coaches above have release forms available. Players who do not sign up in time for that week or do not submit their release forms will not be allowed to attend Thursday’s practice. You must sign up for each individual practice that you wish to attend; the release form is on-time-only, but sign-ups do not carry over week-to-week!
WHEN: Thursdays from 2:50 to 4:30pm, through November 2nd.
WHERE: We will meet at the designated coach’s room each week and travel to and from Rosewood Park together. Players are required to attend the entire practice.
WHY: To learn the sport and be part of a team. To work hard, get exercise, make friends, and improve as a player!

In order to ensure student safety, we require additional parent supervision during these practices. One parent volunteer per week would go a long way in helping us make these practices a great experience for all the players. Please email Coach Natenberg if you can volunteer your time. Include the date(s) you can help and your cell phone number in the message. Thanks in advance!
