Hornet Herald - October 20, 2019

posted Oct 20, 2019, 7:07 PM by KMS Hornets

Hey Hornets,

Our teachers have pulled back a bit on technology use to allow us to make it through October on our cell phone free campus. We are excited that the “pull back” is coming to a close since all of our 8th grade students have the opportunity to check out a Chromebook for individual use in the coming weeks. This will allow us to redistribute the Chromebooks that we have on campus right now to prioritize courses that primarily serve 6th and 7th graders.

This week 8th grade students will bring home paper copies of the Chromebook Everyone to 1 consent form. To simplify consent tracking for our campus, we encourage you complete the consent form online by following the steps below:

  1. Go to
  2. Sign into the cloud with the usual log in.
  3. Click the magnify glass and search for “Everyone to one”
  4. Click the tile and follow the instructions.

The form allows parents to choose from three options:

  1. I want my child to have AISD technology assigned to them.
  2. I want my child to use their personal device.
  3. No, I do not want my child to have AISD technology assigned to them.

We ask that all 8th grade parents submit the form either online or through the use of the paper copy so that we know what to expect for each student. Students will not be assigned a Chromebook unless they have parental consent.

All visitors must check in at the front office. If you are visiting a teacher or volunteering with a club, stop by the front window to sign in. If you come on campus after 3:30 pm to pick up your student, look for them in Think Tank in the cafeteria because the front window closes at 3:30 pm.

For those of you who are new Kealing parents, the costume rumors are true. Kealing staff and students celebrate Halloween in style. Here are a few costume reminders as your students begin to plan this week:

  • Masks are not allowed.
  • Face coverings of any kind are not allowed.
  • Weapons, real or fake, are not allowed.
We look forward to seeing Hornets in costume on October 31!

Homework Hiatus is coming up this week so we hope you have some fun time planned with friends and family. The forecast is showing legit fall weather Saturday. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the 6o degree weather comes to fruition. Have a great week!

Kind regards,

Kenisha Coburn

You may have heard about some recent lunch changes. Teachers are walking students to and from the cafeteria as we work to improve transitions. This week students will participate in circle discussions in Advisory to give feedback on the changes. Self-management is important in maintaining a focused learning environment. We are proud to continue to work on this as a community. Student feedback is a critical component of the next steps.
It's Red Ribbon Week and thousands of schools across the country use this time to engage youth in dialogues about the importance of making positive life choices and avoiding the temptation to use drugs and alcohol. Be ready to talk to your students about the conversations they have this week in Advisory as a part of Red Ribbon Week.

Reflection Deadline - Approaching!
Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.
With positive recognition as the focus of this program, rather than competition, students of all ages and abilities can experience the benefits of creative expression and help in finding their own voice in telling their unique story.
This year’s theme is “Look Within” and the deadline will be the end of October.
See for the guidelines and rules.
Express your artistic talent and tell us what's within reach through Reflections!
