Kealing Broadcast Television is a student developed news program that airs every Tuesday through Advisory.  This year's news team is learning the tricks of the trade and will be broadcasting in about four weeks. We'll post the news in the Student Life section and in Hornet Herald every week once it's up and running.

During the 2016-2017 School Year, we had a strong group of Kealing PTA Business Supporters! We are now kicking off the program for the 2017-2018 school year.

Advisory Minute to Win it Supplies Request
During Advisory "active days" classes are given the opportunity to participate in "Minute to Win it Games."  Classes are provided with a box of supplies to facilitate a number of fun and silly games in the classroom.  To make more of these games we are in need of some supplies.  Below is a list that would allow us to create a number of additional games for classes to use.  If you have some of these around the house or can pick some up it would be much appreciated.  None of these items need to be fancy or expensive, or even new in some cases.
Supplies needed:
  • Large Bath Towels- 12 (Don't have to be new)
  • Hard plastic cups- approximately 48 of the same size
  • Metal spoons- approximately 24 of the same size
  • Slinky- 8
  • Cloth headbands- 8
  • Clipboards- 12
  • Large Belts- As many as possible
  • Cheap classroom sized trash cans- 14 (This is the only thing that we would prefer be new!)
  • Marbles- 30 ish
  • Pencils- Unsharpened
  • Empty tissue boxes- As many as possible
  • 20 oz. soda bottles- As many as possible (rinsed out please)
  • Cardboard Squares the size of a pizza box or clean pizza boxes- 8
  • 1/2 inch Hex Nuts- 60
  • Chopsticks- 60
  • Cardboard circles- like those used for a tiered cake- 20
  • Package of wide velcro
  • 3 oz. drink cups- Paper or Plastic
  • Empty Pringles cans- As many as possible (wiped clean please)
  • Empty 2 liter soda bottles- As many as possible (rinsed out please)
  • Deck of Cards- 10
  • Square thick paper drink coaster 36 ish

Ultimate Frisbee Fall Practices
Coach Crouch, Kepner, and Natenberg are excited to extend the Ultimate Frisbee season into the fall this year in order to provide more time for players to improve their skills and play.
Here are the details:

WHAT: Ultimate Frisbee is a team field sport played with a flying disc. It combines elements of football, basketball and soccer, and requires agility, teamwork, and endurance. Off-season practices this fall will include skills, drills, and scrimmaging. These practices aren’t part of the ‘official’ spring season, but they will preview and lead into that team for the second semester.
WHO: All grade levels, all programs, all genders. No prior playing experience is needed, but good behavior and sportsmanship are expected at all times.
HOW: Be one of the first 40 players to SIGN UP each week and make sure that you’ve submitted your COMPLETED RELEASE FORM. The sign-up sheet will be posted every Monday morning outside of Coach Natenberg’s room (235), and any of the coaches above have release forms available. Players who do not sign up in time for that week or do not submit their release forms will not be allowed to attend Thursday’s practice. You must sign up for each individual practice that you wish to attend; the release form is on-time-only, but sign-ups do not carry over week-to-week!
WHEN: Thursdays from 2:50 to 4:30pm, through November 2nd.
WHERE: We will meet at the designated coach’s room each week and travel to and from Rosewood Park together. Players are required to attend the entire practice.
WHY: To learn the sport and be part of a team. To work hard, get exercise, make friends, and improve as a player!

In order to ensure student safety, we require additional parent supervision during these practices. One parent volunteer per week would go a long way in helping us make these practices a great experience for all the players. Please email Coach Natenberg if you can volunteer your time. Include the date(s) you can help and your cell phone number in the message. Thanks in advance!

Community Dinner
The PTA is hosting a community dinner on October 5th at 6pm in the Kealing cafeteria. This is a wonderful way to extend your Kealing network and build a stronger Kealing family. This is a free event and we hope to see you there! (If you’d like to contribute to the dinner, please visit our sign-up.)

Is your student creative? Do they enjoy photography, music, drawing, painting, writing or dancing? Encourage them to enter our reflections contest! Last year we had multiple Kealing students reach the state level of competition. National winners earn scholarships!

Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for nearly 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. This year’s theme is “Within Reach”.

Eligible students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Multiple entries within a single arts category are permitted. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme. Each entry must also conform to the guidelines developed by the National PTA.
