The annual LASA Showcase is an additional opportunity for interested students and parents to walk LASA’s halls, meet teachers and students, and explore this unique high school.

Austin High Maroon and White Night Showcase
8th Grade Students and Parents:
Plan to attend the highly engaging Maroon and White Showcase Night at Austin High on November 29th! This one-of-a kind event will allow future Maroons to explore all of the College and Career Ready programs that Austin High has to offer.  Tour the Culinary Arts Kitchen, the KAHS Film Studio, or learn more about the exciting opportunities in Project Lead the Way.  Visit with teachers and students about our Academies. The event will begin at 6:30pm in the Austin High Performing Arts Center, with a special performance featuring the many award-winning programs that Austin High has to offer.  Families will then have time to visit with teachers and students representing all aspects of Austin High academics, electives, sports, and clubs. Mark your calendars for this exciting night!

Fahrenheit 451
The Alley Cat Players (LASA/LBJ Theater)  want to invite you to come see our production of Fahrenheit 451! !

McCallum Choir Cabaret
The McCallum Choir presents it's annual Cabaret show Nov. 9-12th.  This year's theme is A Star is Born. Thursday-Friday shows are at 7pm and 2pm on Sunday.

National Junior Honor Society Update
Kealing National Junior Honor Society students can keep up with NJHS news by listening to the morning announcements, checking the NJHS bulletin board, and checking the website. Students should also feel free to stop by Ms. Morgan's room (515) with any questions, concerns, and/or suggestions.

Voting for club officers ends Tuesday, November 7. All elected club officers will be asked to meet with Ms. Morgan on Thursday, November 9. We will set the calendar for meetings for the rest of the year, so be on the lookout for that information next week!

Gifted and Talented Testing

Seasonal Giving at Kealing Middle School- Students Helping the Community- 11/30 & 12/1 
Kealing Middle School will be hosting a Seasonal Giving challenge the last week of November during Advisory classes. Students will be invited to help support their community by providing food items, toys, new clothes, or creating cards of encouragement. All donated items will be distributed to students and families to create a happier, healthier winter season.

Writing Coach Volunteer Opportunity
Are you a proficient informational writer?  Are you interested in volunteering to support Kealing students?  We need your help!  In order to help our students improve as writers, we are soliciting writing coach volunteers.  Students will be focusing on expository writing, which has the primary goal of delivering information about an issue, subject, method, or idea.Volunteer writing coaches will conference one-on-one with students to improve their writing skills. 

Volunteers should be available for one class block of coaching at least one day per week.  There will be training opportunities in October, November and December to help prepare the volunteers.  Complete this form if you are interested in helping to support our students.  Please forward this to anyone who you think might be interested in this opportunity!

Register to be a Kealing Middle School Volunteer
All individuals interested in volunteering at Kealing Middle School must register as a Kealing school-based volunteer and complete a background check through Austin Partners In Education. For more information, contact Dee Gonzales at or 512-414-6700.
KMAG Meeting - HS Options
Our next KMAG meeting will be held on November 9th at 7:30am in the library. We will be discussing high school options. We are still looking for parent representatives from Austin High and the Anderson IB program to attend. We currently have representatives from McCallum, Bowie, and LASA. Please let us know if you would be willing to help us out. These are the 5 high schools that the majority of our students attend, and we would love to have them all represented.

December 7th: PTA General Meeting
PTA Meeting with a guest speaker from the National Alliance of Mental Illness. Parents can learn about the warning signs of anxiety, stress, depression and suicide. They’ll also explain tips and techniques about how to talk with your child about these topics.

Save the Date - MLK Day of Service
Please block your calendars for our annual MLK Day of Service / Peace Through Pie event.  This year's event will be on Saturday, January 13th 2018 from noon-3 pm.  We'll have a community pizza/pie event from noon-1 then gardening/grounds work/neighborhood clean-up from 1-3 pm.

This is a great opportunity for NJHS kids to get some service hours!  Watch for more details and a sign-up sheet coming soon.

Due November 6th in Programs Office Reach Your Creative Potential with the PTA REFLECTIONS. Create an original artistic piece that reflects on this year’s theme: “Within Reach”. Students can enter a piece on dance choreography, literature, film production, photography, visual arts or music composition. Contact for more info or visit here.
