Hello Hornet Families,
We made it through a busy first week of March.
The 8th grade students who were randomly selected showed up to take the National Assessment of Educational Progress. We exceeded the required 90% participation and the students seemed to complete the assessment with little stress or fanfare. We know that taking another test was not an interest for most students so thanks for your support in our participation in this program.
It's UIL season and our Orchestras fared well, receiving superior ratings last week. Kudos to the students for their dedication. I'm not expert but I can tell that the students are playing pieces that challenge them and they are giving their best. The judges agreed!
It's no surprise that the coaches of the world's most popular sport come from the World Languages crew. Ms. Jaworski (German) and Ms. Ewald (French) put in an excellent first year as soccer coaches. The Kealing Girls' Soccer players worked hard all season and ultimately took home the crown, defeating Covington Middle School 2-0 in the zone championships. Check out this video of the winning shot! If you see any of the team members, congratulate them on their sweat equity!
For those who are wondering, the Kealing Spelling Bee Champion is not finished yet. Pramuthi J., a 6th grader, participated in the Zone 10 Spelling Bee against almost 50 contestants from across 3 counties and won. She survived the grueling, over 4 hour competition and now moves on to the April 1st Houston Spelling Bee to fight for a spot at Nationals. We'll all be wishing her well in her final preparation leading up to this event. Good luck Pramuthi!
In the midst of all of the excitement inside and outside of the classrooms, I'm sure some of you heard chants of "5 more days" last Friday. We are all ready for some rest and time with family and friends. Hopefully the nice weather that's in this week's forecast will continue! There will be no after school events or late buses this Friday. We will shut down promptly after the 2:47 bell to kick off Spring Break.
Have a successful week and I look forward to seeing you all after this much needed hiatus!
Best Regards,
Kenisha Coburn
