posted Jun 25, 2018, 6:17 AM by KMS Hornets

Hello Hornet Families,

I hope you are enjoying the summer, relaxing, and spending time with friends and family. The break has been kind to me so far (tennis, swimming, and Amy’s ice cream mostly) but I am also working to get ready for the fall! Below is some important information to have in your mind this summer when you begin to think about the 2018-2019 school year. By the way, if you are now a former-Hornet parent, email to unsubscribe and be removed from the mailing list.

We know that many of you will be purchasing school supplies this summer so click here for a list that will help you get a head start. These lists are not comprehensive due to the variety of unique course offerings at Kealing so a small number of additional supplies may be requested once students have visited all of their classes.

English/Language Arts

All Kealing students should be preparing for summer reading if they have not already gotten a head start. These activities are critical for battling the summer slide and helping students start off the year ready to learn.

Students are still welcome to sign up for Kealing Academy Summer Reading Camp sessions which are to come on June 27, July 18, and July 25 from 9:00 am – noon. Our teachers are excited to take this time to have fun with students while working on summer reading. All participating students will be able to take home their summer reading text of choice. Email or contact the Program Office at 512-414-2707 if your student is interested in participating.

6th and 7th grade students who will be taking Algebra I and any students who will be taking Geometry or Algebra II should have completed their summer math assignments before the first day of school. Click here to look at the summer assignment site for these students.

We look forward to seeing all of our new students at Hornet Camp on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm. Students will receive a tour of the school, meet some of the Kealing teachers, and participate in activities that will help them have a smooth transition to Kealing Middle School. No sign up is required and we hope to see all of our new students at camp!

Students who are eligible for transportation to school during the school year will be able to ride the bus to Hornet Camp. Routes will be similar but will run 1 hour later than the usual time. Bus schedules will be posted on the district website.

New Parent Orientation Presentations are an opportunity to get an overview of the schedule, programming specifics, and some practices and protocols that are unique to Kealing. It’s also a great chance for parents to ask questions that will help them be comfortable and prepared for the first day of school. Below are the available time slots and we hope to see all new parents during one of the presentations.
