We need strong people to help dig and plant six - 30 gallon trees.  We will be planting a line of oaks along the back parking lot to provide shade and two Monterrey Oaks on either side of the back door for shade.   In addition, we are painting the staff bathrooms.  So we need painters, hole diggers, tree wranglers and a water crew.   All this will start at 10am til noon or when it is done.

Yearbook and Inkblot looking for Sponsors
The 2018-19 Kealing Yearbook and Inkblot staff are currently taking sponsor donations. Donations support production (yearbook, Inkblot and KBTV), but most importantly are used to offset the cost of production, to make publications more accessible to all Kealing students. In addition, donations are also used to grant Yearbook and/or Inkblot Scholarships for involved Kealing students who wish to have a 2019 yearbook or Inkblot, but can't otherwise purchase one on  their own.

Interested sponsors should consider donating at their own comfort level. Patrons/sponsors will have their name published in either the yearbook/Inkblot or both, depending on donation level.

You can easily contribute using schoolcashonline. See attached instructions. Or checks can be made payable to Kealing Middle School and delivered to Ms. Scott in room 236.  THANKS!

Grand Canyon Trip Summer 2019 - Still time to sign up!!
This summer, all Kealing students have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore the Grand Canyon with other Kealing students, and naturalist science teacher Cate Bergman!  We will be studying the Canyon, taking a float trip down the Colorado, rock climbing, hiking in Zion, and much more.  We have a small group organized so far, and would love to add several more students to the adventure.  Dates are currently June 1-5, 2019.  For more information, contact Kealing teacher Cate Bergman or the Grand Classroom travel group directly: 434-975-2629.
Hoping to firm up numbers by mid-January - don't miss out!

January 10th - 7:30 AM Library General Meeting Presentation from the Attorney General’s Office on Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is a media buzz word that often conjures images of foreign countries or confusion with the ongoing immigration debate. This workshop cuts through the confusion, arms the participant with an understanding of what human trafficking is and is not and helps them recognize that this is an American problem with American buyers, sellers and victims. It focuses our attention on children who are regularly exploited but are unlikely to self-identify as victims or seek help. This seminar walks participants through actual cases prosecuted in the state of Texas for illustration, identifies the tools of traffickers and how they are typically utilized to obtain and maintain victims, outlines victim needs and the barriers to identification and rehabilitation, and gives participants red flags and interview tips that they can use to begin the identification process.

Kealing PTA Issue Awareness
The Legislature starts next week.  Texas PTA has a list of priorities, and one of them is to increase funding for all Texas schools. There is another group that is working to share the message statewide.  As we gain access to resources that can help educate our membership and others about education issues, we will post them on our website and KealingPTA facebook

The 2019 Legislative session starts January 8th.  Let’s show our strength in numbers.  Kealing has 532 members counted towards our goal of 650.  We are trying to help Texas PTA get to 500,000 members. If you haven’t yet become a PTA , please try and help us reach our goal.
