HOW TO VOLUNTEER Register to be a Kealing Middle School Volunteer All individuals interested in volunteering at Kealing Middle School must register as a Kealing school-based volunteer and complete a background check through Austin Partners In Education. For more information, contact Dee Gonzales or 512-414-6700. NEW THIS YEAR - All AISD Volunteers must sign the AISD Confidentiality Form at the school you are volunteering. Ms. Gonzales will have them at KMAG and PTA meetings or you can contact her. KMAG ANNOUNCEMENTS Shadow Wranglers Needed From 1/29/17 - 2/28/17 prospective Kealing students will shadow current students to learn about the magnet program. Parents are needed in the mornings from 6:55 - 7:45 and afternoons from 2:15 - 3:00 to help greet, check in and check out shadowing students. Win-Win! | CAMPUS NEWS Run with Kealing at the 2019 Cap10K!! Kealing Family, Do you enjoy running/jogging/walking?? Are you interested in setting a New Year’s Resolution goal for yourself?? Do you love representing Kealing Middle School?? YOU should join the Kealing Middle School team at the 2019 Statesman Capitol 10K race on April 7, 2019!! All students and staff are eligible to join the Kealing Middle School team, and if 35 or more participants sign up, we’ll be eligible for a tent at the Finish Line Festival. We will also compete in challenges against other middle schools: Fastest Girl’s & Boy’s Teams (top 5 girls and top 5 boys from each school) and Largest School Team. To register, go to www.cap10k.com - Be sure to select “School Team Member” as your registration option, and look for “Kealing Middle School” in the Team Name drop down menu. Registration is just $20 for School Team Members until January 4, 2019, so register early before prices increase!! Boys Basketball Info All 7th and 8th grade boys interested in trying out for the Kealing Basketball teams need to be aware of the following information: Thursday Dec 13th- Mandatory meeting for all players interested in trying out. The meeting will last from 3-3:30 in the Large Gym. Coaches will go over requirements to try out, as well as practice and game schedules, and other information that will lead to a positive try out and basketball season for the teams. Wednesday Dec 19th and Thursday Dec 20th- Tryouts. Players will need to attend both days of tryouts. Players will need to have a completed AISD Athletic Physical Packet (including a doctors exam and signature) before they can tryout. These packets can be picked up from Coach Gardner's office, the main office, or found on the district website www.austinisd.org/athletics Players will need to bring a t-shirt, athletics shorts, and court shoes for tryouts. They may bring their own water bottles. Our season starts the first week of January when we return from the Winter break. If you have any questions about boys basketball please contact Herbert Jones (7th grade) or Justin Gardner (8th grade). Winter Wear Drive Attention Kealing Hornets! The 8th grade NJHS is hosting a Winter Wear Drive. We will be taking donations from November 26th to December 14th. Bring any gently used coats, scarves, hats, and other winter wear, to your advisory to compete for a donut party! All donations will be going to Coats for Kids. We appreciate any donations! Inkblot Submissions Hey Hornets! Inkblot is back and ready for your submissions! You can submit artwork, writing, and photography. Students who submit before Winter Break will be given an Inkblot pin/button AND will be entered into a drawing to win a gift card. The Food for Thought elective is collecting non-perishable food items for the Central Texas Food Bank starting Monday, December 3, until Thursday, December 20. Over 17% of Travis County residents face food insecurity on a daily basis. The Central Texas Food Bank helps those residents make sure they have enough to eat. Please consider donating canned goods, pasta, beans, rice, apple sauce, trail mix, and dried fruit. Students may drop items off in room 515. Thank you! Deadline for 8th grade yearbook ads EXTENDED! We have only about a dozen ad spaces left, so we're extending the deadline until December 21st. Please submit your ads ASAP. Ads start at $30. Writing Tutor Volunteers Need for Academy ELA Classes We are seeking parent volunteers to assist in English Language Arts classes in the Academy Program during the Spring Semester. These volunteers would focus on supporting students' writing through one-on-one conferences with students. Past volunteers have assisted students at all points in the writing process - brainstorming, drafting, and editing. This support is especially important in helping our 7th Grade students prepare for the STAAR Writing Exam. If you are interested in volunteering in this way, please complete this form, and we will contact you as we prepare for the Spring Semester.
