Hornet Herald - December 1, 2019

posted Dec 1, 2019, 5:54 PM by KMS Hornets   [ updated Dec 1, 2019, 5:58 PM ]
Hey Hornet Families,

Welcome back! I hope you all had restful breaks that allowed you to spend time with some of your favorite people. Mine was a much-needed opportunity to reflect, give thanks, and spend time with those who make my days better. I learned how skilled my 6 year old is at playing Skip-Bo so a week of family game nights was time well-spent. Being part of the Hornet Family brings a lot of joy for me so I am looking forward to seeing our students and staff back on campus this week. I am also looking forward to getting away from the holiday desserts that have overtaken my house. (I ate) too much banana pudding.

We will follow a normal bell schedule all this week. The two following weeks will be filled with all sorts of odd schedules and exams (Final Exams, District Benchmark Testing). Students will get access to the testing schedules in Advisory this week and have opportunities to practice some stress-relief techniques that can help them during this busy period. Be ready to talk about this at home. We are also looking forward to a host of concerts since our Fine Arts department shows off their stuff as we lead into Winter Break. I hope to see you at one of the concerts or Athletic events that will round out the semester.

Students are already thinking ahead to the second semester and so are we! Below is information about the schedule change process. We work to take care of the majority of these requests before students return so that the start to the second semester is smooth. Read below and help your students prepare just in case they are looking forward to possible changes. We will share this information with them on campus too.

Advisory
This week students will learn about the testing dates that close out the semester and practice some stress relief techniques that they can use during busy seasons.

How do I check my student’s grades and attendance?

The system you may hear teachers refer to as TEAMs has a parent interface often referred to as ParentConnect or Parent Self Serve. It can be accessed here and you must have an Austin ISD Cloud login to access the system. This is the place to view live attendance and most up-to-date grades. If you have trouble accessing the system, feel free to reach out to the technology support line by calling 512-414-9187. Support is available weekdays from 7 am - 5 pm. You may also send an email to parenttechsupport@austinisd.org.

How do I change which AISD messages I receive via phone, text, and/or email?

AISD uses a tool called school messenger to send emails, texts, phone calls for various things from emergencies to cafeteria balance. You can select how to receive these messages by doing this:
  1. Go to the parent cloud: my.austinisd.org
  2. Then type in "messages" in the search box (magnifying glass icon)
  3. You will be able to check and set/clear all of your messages.
