Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!

Hello Kealing Family,

The first day is just around the corner. I’d like to welcome new families to our community and all returning families to the 2017-2018 school year! Our teachers spent a lot of energy this summer planning for the year. The energy was infectious and the work of this incredibly talented, inspiring group of educators left me beaming with pride. This year we will continue our emphasis on providing innovative, engaging academic experiences while also making a more concerted effort to focus on the social and emotional well-being of our students. We’re looking forward to what’s to come.

In addition to the customary first day of school excitement, we will have the added layer of Eclipse 2017. Astronomy has a way of enhancing our already stellar academics. We have purchased enough glasses from NASA-approved vendors, the vast majority coming from Lunt Solar Systems whose owner was very excited to support our effort. Our science department has trained our staff and put together an informational video for our students which we will watch before we head outside. Please email or call 512-414-2701 if you would like your child to opt out. Otherwise, expect us to all be outside witnessing the eclipse together!

For those who are wondering, we will operate late buses during the first week of school due to the number of students who are participating in Athletics. For everyone else, expect office hours, Think Tank, and some of our after--school clubs to begin after the first week of school. Also, if you are a new Kealing parent who was not able to attend new parent orientation, I encourage you to visit us to check out the presentation and student handbook.

Monday morning, students will report to schedule pick up rooms based on their grade-level and last name. These rosters are posted online and we encourage all students to look before they arrive. There will also be copies posted around the building. Final schedules with teacher names and room numbers along with other first day handouts will be handed out in these rooms.

We hope you are rested, energized, and looking forward to returning bright and early Monday morning.

With Warm Regards,

Kenisha Coburn
