All interested students should pick up an application from outside Ms. Morledge's room (218) starting on Friday, September 15th. Applications include a student info section, a few short answer questions and a signature page where they will need 100 peer signatures. Applications are due to Ms. Morledge by end of day on Friday, September 22nd. Questions can be directed to Ms. Morledge.

Citizen Science in Acadia National Park
Hi! My name is Megan McDonald, and I am a 6th grade science teacher at Kealing Middle School. Last May I applied with JASON Learning to participate a program that sends teachers and students on research trips. I was awarded a spot on the team traveling to Acadia National Park.  We will be working on a research project there called Seas to Trees, which is studying the effect of climate change on the different ecosystems within Acadia National Park, and wildlife that lives there. I am excited to teach my students about citizen science and climate change! Follow my trip blog this week (Sept 17-23) to see science in action!   www.mcdlearningadventure.weebly.com

Homecoming Week Dress Up Days!
Homecoming Week will be Monday, September 25th-Friday, September 29th. Homecoming is a time to honor our fall sports, football/volleyball and fun way to show off our Hornet Pride! This year's Homecoming Theme is "We Will Hunt You Down!"

Let's show our Kealing Spirit by dressing up all week long:
  • Monday 9/25 "Decade Day!"-From the Roaring 20's to the Awesome 80's and more...pick a favorite decade and "dress to the nines""...or the 90's!
  • Tuesday 9/26 "Camo Day!"-Time for our KMS Football teams to "hunt" down the Garcia Dragons! Show your support by wearing camo style clothing and our school colors red, black and white!
  • Wednesday 9/27 "Pajama Day!"-Ready to put those other teams to sleep? Show your dedication to our Kealing community and wear your comfy pj's to school! (Be sure you pj's adhere to the dress code: no slippers/house shoes or spaghetti strap pj's/nightgowns.)
  • Thursday 9/28 "Aloha Day!"-Time for our KMS Volleyball teams to say "Aloha!" or "Hello and Goodbye!" to the Covington Colts! Support the Lady Hornets and wear your most festive Hawaiian inspired outfits!
  • Friday 9/29 "Flip the Script Day!"-Let's end our Homecoming Week celebration with a surprise and "flip the script" or change it up by dressing like someone else! Imagine Ms. Pena Brooks (Theatre Arts teacher) dressed like Coach Gardner (P.E. coach) for the day! Have fun and be creative!

Kealing Ultimate Frisbee Parent Volunteers needed
We (Coach Crouch, Kepner, and Natenberg) are excited to extend the ultimate frisbee season into the fall this year in order to provide more time for players to improve their skills and play.

Who: All grade levels, all programs, all genders. No prior playing experience needed.
When: Thursdays from 2:50 to 4:30pm, beginning September 14th and ending on November 9th.
Where: Kealing Middle School & Rosewood Park
Why: Because ultimate is awesome!

We are limiting the fall practices to 40 students because only one coach will be in attendance at each practice. We would love your help with transporting the players from Kealing to Rosewood Park and supervising during practice.** One parent volunteer per week would go a long way in helping us make these practices a great experience for all the players.

Email Coach Natenberg if you can volunteer your time. Please include the date(s) you can help and your cell phone number to make day of communication easier.

Cardboard Chairs
The Intro to Engineering students are building cardboard chairs, and we need your cardboard!  Please consider donating you cardboard boxes to us.  They can be delivered to Ms. Gonzalez in Room 204A, or left in the office with a note for Ms. Gonzalez.

KMAG ANNOUNCEMENTS

KMAG No Hassle Curriculum and Teacher Support Drive
The KMAG Curriculum Donation and Teacher Support Drive is underway! In our first 2 weeks we have raised almost 37% of our goal with donations from 100 families. Please join these generous folks in asking yourself how much you can give to help keep the Kealing Magnet Program excellent. We have received donations from $5 to $2000. Nothing is too small (or large) and we are grateful for all who participate! Please visit the KMAG Donate page to make your contribution today!
www.kealingmag.org/donate/donation-form

Be sure to check out some of the videos of what KMAG has funded in the past on our website.

Volunteers Needed
Please help! The KMAG Shadowing program is a parent- volunteer run program that pairs up prospective KMS Magnet applicants with current KMS Magnet students. This opportunity for the student to experience the Magnet program for a day has been a beneficial tool that many prospective Magnet students and their parents have used to help them decide if the Magnet program is right for their family. The Shadowing Committee needs a couple people willing to shadow the committee this year in order to take over next year. At least one chair-person is needed for this program, but it can be run by co-chairs. The Shadowing program also need volunteers to: run the Sign-up Genius for volunteers during shadowing in January/February, act as our Spanish contact liaison for our Spanish- speaking applicant families, be the head morning check-in Wrangler, and to be the Head Afternoon Wrangler. Please contact Gina Vance if you are interested in any of these positions.
