CAMPUS NEWS
2016 Austin ISD High School Showcase
Join Austin ISD pn Saturday, December 10 to learn more about the special programming available at AISD high schools.  For more information view the flyer in English and Spanish.

AISD Future
The Facility Condition Assessment and the Educational Suitability Report are now available.  These reports give an overview of Kealing's current campus conditions and will help inform the district's long-range facility planning as we work to envision the future of Austin ISD.
The minutes from the most recent Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee (FABPAC) Meeting can be found here.  They include the recommendations presented by the consultants, focusing primarily on elementary schools.  More secondary school information is to come.  AISD is working diligently to make informed recommendations that will inform the next 20+ of improvement in the district.  Stay tuned for more info!

AISD Middle and High School Application Programs
Austin ISD has created a new system to make the process easier when applying to Academy and Magnet Programs district-wide.  This system takes away the burden of submitting test scores, grades, etc. as we are able to access this info directly through district systems. If you have a student who is applying to one of these programs for the 2017-2018 school year, be sure to follow the instructions below.
  1. Go to the Parent Cloud: https://my.austinisd.org and log in. If you do not yet have an account, you can create one.
  2. Search for and click on “AISD Common Application (Part 1)”.
  3. Choose your student and click on the program(s) they will apply for.
  4. Make note of the remaining pieces of the program’s application process.
  5. When you click "Submit", the following components of the application will automatically be forwarded to the appropriate programs.
    • General Student Demographic Information
    • STAAR scores for 2015-16 in Reading and Math
    • Grades for the 2015-2016 school year and for Fall 2016.
  6. After you click “Submit”, you will see a link for “Teacher Recommendations”. Click on this link to send the recommendation form to your teachers.
  7. Make note of additional requirements for the programs that you are applying to.

This year's Kealing Spelling Bee will be Wednesday, Dec. 7th, in the theater after school at 3pm. Students will get the chance to have a practice bee in advisory earlier that week, but no matter how that goes, everyone is welcome to participate in the bee. No registration is necessary, but please report to the theater directly after school. The winner will go on to represent our school at the Zone X bee in February! You can get this year's word list from the bottom of Ms. Strickland's website. For any other questions - please contact Ms. Strickland, the spelling bee sponsor.

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
MLK Day of Service Volunteers Needed
The Kealing PTA is looking for volunteers to help plan the MLK Day of Service event to be held on January 21, 2017 from noon-4pm in the KMS cafeteria and grounds. We are holding a planning meet in the Kealing library on Thursday, December 8th at 3 pm. Please join us!

If you'd like to help plan but are not available to attend the meeting on 12/8, contact parent volunteers Theresa Spicer (theresa.spicer@yahoo.com) and Laura DiCarlo (lhdicarlo@yahoo.com).
Staff Appreciation Holiday Celebration
As we spend these weeks thinking about what we're thankful for, let's not forget the incredible staff at Kealing Middle School. Please consider donating to the Faculty/Staff Holiday Party, which will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 3pm. We are collecting gift cards in hopes of giving one to each staff member and food donations for the party. Gift card donations can be sent any time to Alyssa Barrera in the Program Office, or to me, Rachael Steyaert (email airetx@gmail.com for address). Food items may be sent to the Kealing office on Wednesday, Dec. 9 or to the library after 2pm. Thank you!

KMAG ANNOUNCEMENTS
KMAG Meeting This Week
Please join us for our next KMAG meeting this coming Thursday, December 8th, at 7:30 am in the library. The topic will be "Behind the Scenes in the Magnet Program" and will be led by Dianne Carter. If you have questions and are unable to attend the meeting, please email Mary-Alis Kelly at mand94@gmail.com. We hope to see you there.

Shadowing Volunteer Needed
The KMAG Shadow Committee is looking for a volunteer to set up Sign Up Genius for our parent volunteers' shifts. This should be set up by mid-December. We will have all of the dates/shift times for you. This is an easy task one can do from home. This person, ideally, will monitor it as well during the shadowing period in late January and February in case volunteers are having issues signing up for shifts. Please let us know if this interests you (Rob_Molly_Kohler@sbcglobal.net)
