Spelling Bee Results
Congratulations to 6th grader Pranathi J. for winning the Kealing Spelling Bee on Wednesday, December 7th. She and runners-up Nisha V. and Peyton D. were so well-prepared that it took 2 hours and 26 rounds in order to finally decide our winner. Ms. Strickland wants to thank all the students who participated in the bee, and give extra thanks to Ms. Tasneem, Mr. Slapak, Ms. Neill, and Mr. Aparicio for their help that afternoon. Wish Pranathi good luck as she prepares for the next round of competition in February.

6th Grade STEM Club
After School 6th grade STEM Club registrations will be available soon for the Spring Semester. Student who participated for the Fall Semester are invited to return. All 6th graders interested are encouraged to ask their Science teachers for registration packets. Please contact Jo Garcia if you have any questions or need more information ( 512-841-1136 - Room 107).

AISD Future
The Facility Condition Assessment and the Educational Suitability Report are now available.  These reports give an overview of Kealing's current campus conditions and will help inform the district's long-range facility planning as we work to envision the future of Austin ISD.
The minutes from the Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee (FABPAC) Meeting meetings can be found here.  They include the recommendations presented by the consultants.  AISD is working diligently to make informed recommendations that will inform the next 20+ of improvement in the district.  Stay tuned for more info!

AISD Middle and High School Application Programs
Austin ISD has created a new system to make the process easier when applying to Academy and Magnet Programs district-wide.  This system takes away the burden of submitting test scores, grades, etc. as we are able to access this info directly through district systems. If you have a student who is applying to one of these programs for the 2017-2018 school year, be sure to follow the instructions below.
  1. Go to the Parent Cloud: https://my.austinisd.org and log in. If you do not yet have an account, you can create one.
  2. Search for and click on “AISD Common Application (Part 1)”.
  3. Choose your student and click on the program(s) they will apply for.
  4. Make note of the remaining pieces of the program’s application process.
  5. When you click "Submit", the following components of the application will automatically be forwarded to the appropriate programs.
    • General Student Demographic Information
    • STAAR scores for 2015-16 in Reading and Math
    • Grades for the 2015-2016 school year and for Fall 2016.
  6. After you click “Submit”, you will see a link for “Teacher Recommendations”. Click on this link to send the recommendation form to your teachers.
  7. Make note of additional requirements for the programs that you are applying to.

Yearbook Ads
Eighth graders grow up pretty fast. If you don't stop and buy a yearbook ad, you might miss out. Only a limited time remains to commemorate your child's middle school experience with a personal message in the 2017 Kealing yearbook. Purchase yours online today at www.jostens.com/yearbookads. Prices start at $35. Don't miss out. Sale ends December 15th.

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
MLK Day of Service Volunteers Needed
We are looking for volunteers to assist with the MLK Day of Service event on Saturday, January 21st from noon-4 pm. Please sign up here.
KMAG ANNOUNCEMENTS
Shadowing Volunteer Needed
The KMAG Shadow Committee is looking for a volunteer to set up Sign Up Genius for our parent volunteers' shifts. This should be set up by mid-December. We will have all of the dates/shift times for you. This is an easy task one can do from home. This person, ideally, will monitor it as well during the shadowing period in late January and February in case volunteers are having issues signing up for shifts. Please let us know if this interests you (Rob_Molly_Kohler@sbcglobal.net)
Thank you,
Molly Kohler and Gina Vance
