The Kealing PTA sends a giant thanks to our very first Business Sponsors. This new program gives companies the chance to support Kealing's students, strenghten our neighborhood and receive recognition throughout the Kealing community. Our first supporters are below:

Congratulations, Patty Hill!
Patty Hill Wins the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching!  The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 mathematics and science (including computer science) teaching. The award recognizes those teachers who develop and implement a high-quality instructional program that is informed by content knowledge and enhances student learning. Awardees serve as models for their colleagues, inspiration to their communities, and leaders in the improvement of mathematics and science (including computer science) education. 

Healthy Schools Flu Vaccine
Austin ISD has teamed up with Healthy Schools and E3 Alliance to offer your child a no-cost Influenza(Flu) Vaccine this coming fall 2016, this vaccine is recommended to help keep your healthy and in turn our community flu free this coming school year and “Kick the Flu” in 2016!
With our partners, we have made it as convenient as possible to offer this FREE service at your child’s school. Your child will receive a consent form for the Flu vaccine in Advisory.
All you have to do is fill it out, and have your child return it to school by September 9, 2016. Healthy Schools will take care of the rest- and there’s no cost involved.
Nurses will be vaccinating students at Kealing on September 16, 2016 from 1:10 - 3:00 pm.

KMS Pep Squad
Attention 6th graders: We are looking for YOU to be involved in KMS pep squad! Attend all the football games, sit in our special designated section, and help the cheerleaders cheer on our Hornets! You will get an official pep squad T-shirt, poms, and noise makers! Sign up sheet is on the door of room 103C, please see Ms. Berry for details.

Advisory Supplies Needed
This year we will be celebrating lots of fun moments, from creating an advisory team name to constructing homecoming floats, in advisory. Students will engage in exciting challenges as well, such as the school wide pennant contest and 'Minute to Win It' games. However, we need help gathering supplies to make these activities happen. We are looking for: newspapers, non-crushed aluminum cans (washed out), string, yarn, brown paper grocery bags, rubber bands, tennis balls (old), ping pong balls, bubbles and hula hoops. 
We will have bins in the program office for donations. Thank for your support and helping us making these moments count!

Lateral Elective Changes
Elective change requests within the same period time will begin on August 29th and close September 1st at 3:00 pm in the Program Office. Requests will be honored on a first come, first served basis. Students should listen for announcements and watch for available classes posted in the hallways.

Teacher's Assistant/Office Aide Application
7th and 8th grade students, Teacher's Assistant and Office Aide applications will be available in the program office on Monday, August 22. Students are responsible for securing permission from the cooperating teacher and parents, then returning the application by 3:00 pm on Thursday, September 1st. 

PTA ANNOUNCEMENTS
Environmental Committee
The PTA Environmental Committee would like to thank all of the parents and students who helped at the Kealing grounds day last Saturday, August 20th. Volunteers weeded, pruned, mulched, and made the campus more inviting on the first day of school. Service hours were signed for, and everyone enjoyed the Popsicle social. Special thanks to Grounds Chair Dusty Harshman and Urban Gardens Chair Elizabeth McBride.

PTA Membership Meeting
Please join us in the Kealing cafeteria this Thursday, September 1st, from 7:30-8:30 am for our first PTA Meeting and Principal Coffee. Come learn about the PTA’s programs for their year, meet other parents and Kealing administrators, and find out ways you can get involved in the school. Principal Coburn will also give updates on what’s new at Kealing this year. 

PTA Budget
At our September 1st meeting, we will be adopting the PTA budget for the year. All PTA members have a vote and a voice in how we spend our funds. Come share your ideas with us on September 1st, or feel free to email the PTA President, Heather Way, at kealingmspta@gmail.org.

Membership Drive
Please join the PTA today to help support the education and success of all children at Kealing. It's super easy to join (go to www.kealingpta.org) and costs only $10 per person or $19 per family. We also offer scholarships. PTA memberships are for one year, so you need to renew your membership each school year. Help us reach our goal of 100% parent membership this year.

Spirit Wear Sales
PTA will be selling the newly re-designed spirit wear on Thursday, 9/1, and Friday, 9/2, in the cafeteria during all lunches. We will accept cash or checks (made payable to “Kealing PTA”). You can check out the new styles and also order online at http://www.kealingpta.org/store. (For online orders, please give your student a print out of the online receipt. Pickup is only available during lunch sales). The new designs look fantastic and we are now offering zip hoodies and baseball shirts! Reflections Program
The PTA Reflections program fosters creativity and the arts in students of all ages. PTA is looking for someone to coordinate this program for the Kealing students. Materials and support are provided by Texas PTA. This is a short term, easy volunteer opportunity which will give you a front row seat to Kealing students' amazing creativity. Outreach/Community Liaison Team
Kealing PTA and KMAG Want YOU! Would you like to get involved in volunteering for Kealing, but are looking for a small, impactful way to contribute from home on your own time? We are looking for one parent from each elementary school that feeds into Kealing to be on our KMAG and PTA  Outreach/Communications Liaison Team. These school liaison positions will be key to connecting directly to parents from each school, providing information to families joining the Kealing Community, If this job sounds like something you are interested in, or if you know of another parent at Kealing who might be interested in serving as a school liaison, please email Lynn Boswell at lynn@villitamedia.com. Open Positions
The Kealing Magnet Advisory Group (KMAG) currently has 4 open positions to fill for committee chairs, as follows:

6th Grade Field Trip and 7th Grade Field Trip 
These committees work with grade-level teachers to coordinate and support the class trip for their respective grades. Trips usually take place in the spring.

Book Club/Parent Education
Coordinate 3 or 4 parent meetings per year that focus on books related to parenting, childhood education, etc., including arranging for a facilitator(s) or speaker(s) related to the topic. Some sessions have included related books. Coordinate efforts with programs being arranged by Parent Support Specialist, PTA, and Austin ISD High Schools.

New Parent Reception/New Student Registration Committee
Work with the Magnet Director and staff to coordinate volunteer hosts, logistics and refreshments for three new parent receptions held in March while newly admitted students take the math placement exam; coordinate volunteers to assist with new student registration one Friday afternoon and one Saturday morning in March. KMAG is made up of parents who work with the Magnet Director to assist and support the Magnet Program. It provides financial and volunteer resources to the Kealing Magnet Program to promote academic excellence, classroom enrichment and diverse academic extracurricular activities.
