Kealing 30th (Re)opening Anniversary
Who: All Hornets (past, present, future)
What: 30th Anniversary Celebration
When: April 22, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Join us for games, tours, music, spaghetti lunch, line dancing and fun as we mark this milestone with members of the Hornet community. Help is needed with set-up, check-in, display of memorabilia, games, face painting, planting in the courtyard for Earth Day, distribution of slushies and Jim-Jims Water Ice, and more. Students and siblings can get service hours. Email email@example.com to volunteer.
Also, we will display Hornet memorabilia as a part of the event. If you have old photos, uniforms, t-shirts, et cetera that you are willing to donate for the display, please drop them by campus by April 18. Email firstname.lastname@example.org with questions.
All Parents - Register Online for the 2017-2018 School Year!
You can register now through the Austin ISD Parent Cloud at my.austinisd.org. Currently about 30% of our families are registered for the 2017-2018 school year. Help Kealing Park win a $20k grant!
Kealing Park (the park that adjoins Kealing MS) has been selected as one of the three finalists for the Austin “Meet me at the Park” campaign. The project with the most votes will be awarded the $20,000! If awarded the grant, our very own Kealing Parks & Rec elective is planning on working with the Austin P&R department to complete the project! You can vote every day in April by texting Kealing to 35350* or by visiting NRPA.org/BeInspired (requires a sign in and must be 18).
City-Wide Book DriveKealing advisories are collecting books for a city-wide book drive to benefit AISD schools. Many campuses do not have enough "choice" books for students to read in classrooms or before and after school. Others hope to send books home with students for the summer. We are looking for books from all reading levels, Pre-K through 12th grade. Please have your child bring them to advisory. The Austin Council of PTAs will collect and distribute them. Together, we can share the love of reading with ALL kids in AISD!
Dream Flags RealizedThank you to the dream team of volunteers! You made 1200 dream flags come true! A special shout out to Sarah Morgan and the National Junior Honor Society and Kelly Morledge with Student Council for helping cut and string the flags.
Thank you to our librarian Kerensa Williams for cutting out flags. A huge shout out to Patty Hill, Michael Word and Math in the Arts students for more flag stringing, ironing and hanging them in our hallways. They look stunning.
Thank you to Kealing parents Dana Curtis, Melissa Tanis, Meggan Carcasi, Mary Morgan, and Ann Phipps for cutting, sewing, cutting and more sewing.
Finally, thank you to everyone who contributed time and fabric to help beautify our hallways. Our students' dream flags greet us each morning, serving as a reminder of our commitment to helping students realize those dreams.
MathCounts Last Club MeetingThis Tuesday, April 18th, will be our last Mathcounts club meeting, so we will have our end of the year party! We have success to celebrate, as well as plans to make for next year. Any and all students who have been involved in Mathcounts this year are invited to come. Bring a snack or drink to share if you want, but don't worry if you can't. If you have checked out any practice books, please bring them with you on Tuesday to return. Model UNThe first Model UN meeting will be after school on Tuesday, April 18 in room 215 (Mr. Hendrex's room). Weekly meetings will occur on Tuesdays until the competition on May 16. Please see Ms. Shoaf (rm 516) or Mr. Hendrex (rm 215) for more information.
PTA Meeting This WeekJoin us in the library this Thursday at 7:30am for a Kealing PTA Membership Meeting, where we will be electing our officers and discussing other volunteer opportunities for next year. The meeting will be followed by a Principal's Coffee at 8am, featuring presentations on free and affordable summer camp options for middle schoolers.

Thanks to everyone who supported our school through Kealing Center Stage this year! It was a fun night out with fellow parents and teachers and entertainment by the our Kealing Teachers, the Spiral Notebooks, along with a duet by Ms. Coburn and Ms. Carter!
We still have several great items available in our online auction at https://www.32auctions.com/KCS2017 including newly-added items and opportunities to donate to specific, critical needs at Kealing, including new goggles for the science classrooms, digital microscopes, a volleyball net for the small gym, new lap top computers, and more.

McCallum Transition Camp
If you are an 8th grader who will be attending McCallum in the fall, you need to sign up for transition camp. The camp will be held June 6 or 7th.
